Your visit to the Latin Quarter
and the Pantheon in details

Step 1: La Sorbonne, the Latin Quarter’s legendary school

Bid farewell to Notre-Dame and hit Pont Saint Michel to visit La Sorbonne, the French university with a legendary past! Learn everything there is to know about the iconic school where Cardinal Richelieu was headmaster in 1622 and some famous names studied here: Erasmus, Pierre and Marie Curie, Honoré de Balzac, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Luc Godard and many more.
La Sorbonne set the scene for social and historical events from the foundation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin to the riots in May 1968.

Next step: the Pantheon, tomb of the greats

Let’s climb up Montagne Sainte-Geneviève to visit the Pantheon!

It started out as a church but was turned into a memorial site to celebrate France after the Revolution. We’ll meet the big names from the world of science and politics: Simone Veil, General De Gaulle, Marie Curie, Voltaire, Jean Jaurès and most recently, Joséphine Baker.

Thirsty for more?

Soufflot built the Pantheon in the 18th century with its awe-inspiring architecture worthy of a Greek temple and some of the best views of the city from the top. Unleash your inner scientist under the dome with Foucault’s pendulum, a fabulous device to demonstrate the Earth’s rotation.

Next step: The necropolis home to France’s greats!

Our tour continues to the Pantheon’s crypt where 77 famous names are laid to rest. Step into the peaceful and stark crypt to come face to face with their tombs and the National Memorial to the Righteous, a fascinating experience that sheds light on what they did.

Next step: Jardin du Luxembourg

It’s time for a breath of fresh air and a walk in the sprawling Jardin du Luxembourg to enjoy the peace and its beauty. Along the way you can stop for a coffee at Le Soufflot to reflect on your outing and share your thoughts with the philosophy teachers….

Queen Marie de’ Medici commissioned the Jardin du Luxembourg in 1612 and it’s a right royal haven of peace! Do you prefer an English country garden or the French take on it? Take your pick!
